Public-Private Partnership Course

Strong communities are built through collaboration. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) bring together the resources, leadership, and creativity of governments, businesses, nonprofits, and residents to solve challenges that no single entity could address alone. From revitalizing vacant buildings to funding essential services and creating shared visions for the future, partnerships expand the possibilities for local development.

This training series introduces the core concepts, tools, and practices for building effective partnerships in your community. Each module is designed to deepen your understanding and provide practical steps—from identifying why partnerships matter, to setting goals, financing projects, overcoming barriers, and planning for long-term success.

Learning Lessons Across the Series
By the end of this program, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the value of partnerships in addressing community issues and advancing shared goals.

  • Define the roles and responsibilities of the public sector in initiating and sustaining partnerships.

  • Develop metrics and strategies to measure the success of collaborative projects.

  • Explore financing options and funding structures that support publicly funded initiatives.

  • Anticipate barriers and identify strategies for achieving broad buy-in and feasibility.

  • Understand the different models of partnerships and determine which best fit your community’s needs.

  • Build a visioning process that engages diverse stakeholders and establishes long-term goals for success.

  • Learn from case studies of communities that have used PPPs to transform challenges into opportunities.
