Initiative or Legislation – Either Way, Property Tax is Changing!

There’s no question that property values in Colorado have increased in recent years, and taxpayers and property tax advocates have been asking for relief.  This November voters will decide whether to cap the total amount of property tax revenues collected by local governments (Initiative 50), and whether to reduce the percentage of total value taxed (Initiative 108).  If neither measure passes, then the solution crafted by the Colorado General Assembly, SB 24-233 will become law.  But no matter what, the process by which local governments (cities, counties, special districts, school districts, even urban renewal authorities) receive property tax revenues, and the amounts local governments receive, will change.

This presentation will explore some of the questions around exactly how this will work, and what tools and strategies may be available to clarify and implement the law after November.
